An injured person receiving treatment at KATH
Three people died while 15 others sustained severe injuries after a driver of a taxi ran through a crowd at Serebuoso in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
The deceased persons were identified as Diana Osei, 13, Yaa, 7 and Maame Kyerewaa, also believed to be 10 years old.
The dead and injured were among scores of people who were jubilating after Nana Akufo-Addo was sworn-in as Ghana’s president when the incident occurred
One Kwadwo Arhin, a tricycle rider, reportedly plowed through the crowd with the taxi of his brother, Akwasi Gyau on Saturday at about 9pm.
The bodies of the deceased persons have since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue in Kumasi pending autopsy.
Fifteen people, who sustained severe injuries, are currently receiving treatment at KATH.
Angry youth in the town quickly burnt the taxi few minutes after the incident.
Arrest
Kwasi Kyere, an eyewitness, told DAILY GUIDE that Gyau and Arhin were arrested from their hideout after the incident.
MP Intervention
The Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Isaac Asiamah, sent a powerful delegation to the hospital and homes of the deceased people to console them.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the NPP legislator said he would support the affected families to give the dead a befitting funeral and take care of the injured people.
Accident
Gyau, the driver of the taxi cab, was said to have parked the car somewhere in the town to monitor proceedings.
But his brother Arhin, who is a tricycle rider, reportedly moved the car but unfortunately ended up plowing through the jubilant crowd.
