Abdallah Abubakari and Daniel Bugri Naabu
The Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has entreated President Mahama to call to order the Northern Regional Minister, Abdallah Abubakari, who doubles as the parliamentary candidate for the Walewale Constituency.
According to Mr Bugri Naabu, the regional minister ordered his (minister’s) Abuba Aluta Boys to attack NPP supporters during a rally in the area.
He indicated that if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) does not call the regional minister to order and anything happens he cannot go to Walewale.
“I want to tell the minister that he should be very careful because we know what we are about so the next time such a thing happens there will be problem,” the NPP regional chairman fumed.
The outspoken chairman told DAILY GUIDE that the NDC was distributing firearms to party supporters at Walewale to attack the NPP anytime they try to organize a rally in the area.
“Even in the Northern Region here they have distributed guns to party boys and some of them are saying they will sell them because they don’t have money to pay their children’s school fees so they don’t see the use in keeping them,” Mr Naabu claimed.
The NPP constituency secretary, Simon Ali, told DAILY GUIDE that the regional minister was heard on Eagle Fm, a radio station at Walewale, calling on the Abuba Aluta Boys to attack NPP supporters anytime they attempt carrying out any political programme in the constituency.
He indicated that as the minister and the Regional Security Committee (REGSEC) chairman, it is worrying that he takes sides in a clash between two major political parties.
According to Mr Simon Ali, one of the men who attacked an NPP supporter with a cutlass is the brother of the minister, by name Zakaria Iddrisu, but surprisingly no arrest has been made so far.
Simon Ali therefore, called on President Mahama to do something about the current situation in the Walewale Constituency.
NPP’s Bawumia Youth for Change and the NDC’s Zaadiaya Youth – supporters of the Northern Regional Minister who doubles as the party’s Parliamentary candidate for Walewale – clashed Saturday evening, leaving five persons injured.
Information gathered by this paper indicates that supporters of the two political parties launched their campaign activities in the area very close to each other, causing the clash.
