Captain Mahama’s Killers Caged

The suspects being transported to the Cape Coast Metropolitan Police Station

A Cape Coast District Court yesterday remanded seven suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama, which occurred at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Upper Denkyra West District of the Central Region.

The court, presided over by Rita Amoanyiwaa-Edusah, adjourned the case to June 19 after the prosecutor, ASP Hilarious Avonyo, had prayed the court to remand the suspects into police custody to enable the law enforcers to gather more information for their investigation.

The seven suspects are the assemblyman for the area, William Baah, 36; prison assistant Bismark Donkor, 30; Philip Badu, 30; Yaw Annor, 32, mason; Kofi Badu, 29, farmer; Kofi Nyame, 29, farmer and Anthony Amoah, 23, Okada (motorbike) rider.

The prosecution preferred a preliminary charge of murder against the suspects, pending the completion of investigation into the lynching of Captain Maxwell Mahama last Monday, May 29.

ASP Avonyo said the police received a report on May 29, 2017 that Captain Mahama was jogging on the Domina-Denkyira-Odumasi Road and on reaching Denkyira-Obuasi, somebody raised a false alarm, indicating that the late army officer was an armed robber.

The prosecutor told the court that the youth of the town (the suspects included) lynched the officer after refusing to heed or listen to his plea.

He added that both William Baah and Yaw Annor managed to escape and went into hiding on Tuesday when the police and the military team went to the town (Denkyira-Obuasi).

ASP Avonyo stated that William Baah and Philip Badu tended themselves in and were arrested by the police on May 31, while the other five were arrested by the joint police and military team the day before.

DAILY GUIDE observed that there was heavy security presence at the court, with some of the people, who trooped there to listen to the case weeping due to the dastardly way in which Captain Mahama was killed.
