Drama unfolded when 13 members of the Delta Force were re-arrested in court few minutes after they were briefly set free on Tuesday.
The Attorney General’s Department said that the initial charges against the Delta Force should be dropped.
The charges, which were eventually dropped, are conspiracy to commit crime, assault on a public officer and causing unlawful damage.
ACP Okyere Darko, the prosecutor, said the AG’s Department also advised that the accused people be charged with rioting.
In accordance to the AG’s advice, the accused people were set free after all the initial charges were dropped in court.
Interestingly, all the 13 Delta Force members were re-arrested few minutes later after the charge of rioting was preferred against them.
The dramatic incident occurred at the packed KMA Circuit Court, presided over by Mary Senkyire on Tuesday.
As at the time of filing this report yesterday, lawyer for members of the Delta Force, Mathew Appiah, was working hard to secure bail for the accused people.
The Delta Force, based in the Ashanti Region, is a vigilante group that has links with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the ruling political party.
The group, whose members are stoutly-built, did not support George Adjei’s appointment as Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator.
They therefore stormed the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), a security zone and dragged him out of his office which led to their arrest.
