Chief Begs For Fugitive Naaba

Nana Owusu Kuntor

SOME traditional leaders in the Asutifi South Constituency of the Brong Ahafo Region have appealed to members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the area and Ghanaians in general to forgive the fugitive brother of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, who confessed that he ‘killed’ many people before and during the 2016 general elections.

The MP, Collins Dauda and his younger brother, Abdulai Naaba, hail from Mehame. They made the appeal at the palace of the Chief of Mehame, Nana Owusu Kuntor, when the MP called on him to express the appreciation of his family members to the chief and his people for accepting his late father, Gyato Naaba, into the community when he migrated to the area. The visit was after the Mosei community in the area had observed the 9th anniversary of the death of Gyato Naaba – the father of the MP. He was the Chief of Mosei.

Nana Owusu Kuntor with his colleague chiefs from Nkaseim, Dadieso Aba and Ayomsu, who graced the occasion, asked Abdulai Naaba to return to the community since there is no criminal record against him despite what he said.

According to Nana Owusu Kuntor, Naaba’s tantrums were political talk and he didn’t mean what he said.

“It was because of the heat at the time. Abdulai is not a killer; he doesn’t kill; rather, he is a generous man. He and his brother brought development to the area such as water, roads, electricity, among others. Others can testify,” he stressed as he received the MP accompanied by the regional chairman of the NDC, Kwadwo Nyametye Marfo and the regional organizer, Maha Seidu.

In his speech, the Chief of Nkaseim, Nana Danso Adjei, called for togetherness between NPP and NDC in order to make it easy to vote ‘yes’ in the 27th December referendum. He appealed to the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, former parliamentary aspirants, the DCE and the police to drop the case against Naaba since there is no evidence to prove what he said in his confession.  “Let’s allow him to come back to the community to continue with his good work of development,” he added.

The MP thanked the chief for his blessings and promised to continue with the development of the area irrespective of the party in power.  “Our community needs progress”, he emphasized.

It would be recalled that the younger brother of Collins Dauda, Abdulai Naaba, was accused by members of the then opposition NPP for orchestrating violence against them before and during the 2016 election. The NPP parliamentary candidate, Cecelia Gyan Amoah and her supporters suffered alleged brutalities from Naaba who publicly accepted on radio that he killed many people for one reason or the other.

He, however, came back to apologize to Ghanaians that what he said was false, saying it was a political talk. The NPP parliamentary candidate, Cecelia Amoah, has since been to court with the charge of assault to seek redress.  Naaba consequently absconded and is now a fugitive and the chiefs are pleading on his behalf.
