The three suspected killers in police custody
Three persons believed to have played a role in the murder of the development chief of Ardeyman, in the Greater Accra Region, Nii Tettey Sarbah, have been arrested by the Kwabenya police.
The suspects are Asafoatse Nii Quaye Kortey aka Cobra, 39-year-old carpenter, Rahim Yakubu, 20-year-old cattle rearer and Musah Mohammed, 28-year-old scrap dealer.
They were said to be lodging at Richview Hotel at Aboom Junction when the police apprehended them on Monday, June 12, 2017 at about 11:10 am.
The police said they retrieved a pistol, sharp knife and other weapons concealed in two school bags.
A BMW and Suzuki unregistered motorbikes allegedly belonging to the suspects, were also retrieved.
An eyewitness account indicated that the suspects were arrested by four fully armed police officers from the Atomic Police Station, having lodged in the hotel to allegedly launch an attack on another victim said to be a journalist.
Nii Tettey Sarbah was found in a pool of blood in his room with gun and machete wounds on Friday, June 9, 2017.
The assailants reportedly launched an attack on him at dawn when he and other family members were performing some purification rituals to lift the ban on noise making ahead of the Homowo festival.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, ASP Efia Tenge, at a news briefing, said the police had begun rigorous investigations into the death of the chief.
She said on June 12, 2017, the three were arrested at Ridgeview Hotel, Kwabenya, based on police intelligence.
ASP Efia Tenge averred that the police found a pistol and 17 rounds of ammunition on Asafoatse Nii Quaye Kortey aka Cobra.
The three suspects and others now at large, armed with AK 47 rifles, pistols, machetes and clubs, allegedly fired indiscriminately and as a result, the three persons sustained various degrees of injury.
Police investigation revealed that the suspects chased the traditional ruler, who reportedly entered the room of a relative for safety, fired a shot at him and inflicted machete wounds on him.
The suspects, who realized that he was dead, allegedly dumped the body in another room and bolted.
One of the victims, who sustained gunshot wounds, was treated and discharged, while another victim, who was shot in the left arm, is still receiving treatment at the hospital.
ASP Tenge confirmed that the police discovered four empty AK 47 shells, 12. 9mm empty shells, one empty cartridge and one live cartridge.
