Chinese National Escapes From Nsawam Prison

In a shocking turn of events, a Chinese national serving jail term at the Nsawam Medium Prison has managed to escape.

The convict, who was convicted of theft and other criminal related offenses, reportedly feigned illness and was subsequently transferred to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

According to reports, the Chinese inmate was initially arrested in Tema before being transferred to the high-security Nsawam Prison. However, during his time at the hospital on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, he made his daring escape. It remains unclear how he managed to flee from the hospital premises without being detected.

Following the incident, the prison officer who was responsible for accompanying the Chinese has been interdicted by the service, pending a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
The Ghana Prison Service considers the escape a serious breach of security and is determined to bring the fugitive back into custody.

Superintendent Abdul Latif Adamu, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, has assured the public that they are working tirelessly to locate and apprehend the escapee.

Mr. Adamu revealed that they have obtained several leads that could potentially lead to the re-arrest of the Chinese.

“We have gotten a lot of leads that are proving to be successful in what we are doing,” stated Mr. Adamu.
However, he emphasized that the investigation is currently ongoing and the authorities are doing everything in their power to rectify this security breach.
