The Coconut Grove Resort Golf Club at Elmina will host this year’s Seniors Golf Open, this writer can confirm.
This year’s, the 29th edition, is scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday, and it is expected to attract some of the finest golfers across the country.
Ghana Golf Association (GGA) President, Mr. Mike Aggrey has said “We are almost through with preparations and I am reliably informed that the course is in good shape for the 36-hole event.
“We have put in place structures to ensure we deliver a masterful competition.”
He added “It is expected to attract some of the crack senior golfers; as this is a game of equals, it is bound to be keenly contested.
“A key side attraction is the inclusion of the 40-49 age group in a special category to show the ‘youngsters’ how ‘easy does it’.”
Seniors have been segmented into three categories-55 and above; 40-49 and 50-54 Â Special group.
The GGA boss mentioned that sponsors include GN Re, Coconut Grove Resort, Goil, Stella Artois, GIHOC distilleries and IMG. Seniors are Mike Ezan, Captain Butah, Nana Atta Nyamekye (all past Presidents of Achimota) Eddie Addo, the current President and newly turned senior Dr Frank Adu.
Also in contention are veterans, Albert Brock, Peter Osei Duah and Eric Addo Mensah.
On the ladies, Ama Morgan, Aku Yabah and Esther Amedzro are in contention.
Joy Arkutu, the newly appointed Tournament Director of the GGA, who is also a contender, is a member of the organizing team along with Ebo Anderson and this is their first event.
