The contractor working on the dualization of the Takoradi-Agona-Nkwanta Road has appealed to the government to release money for the successful completion of the project.
The 23-kilometre stretch, which is being executed by Justmoh Construction Limited, with the implementing agency being the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA), is about 51% complete.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Justmoh Construction, Dr. Justice Amoh, he had not received any funds from government for the project.
He said, “We are currently depending on our bankers. The period the government gave for the release of funds in the payment terms, has passed and no money was released.”
The contractor made the appeal when the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, inspected the progress of project.
He revealed in an interview with journalists that he has so far raised three certificates but none of them has been honoured.
The project started in March 2024 and it is expected to be completed in 36 months.
He said, “Per our programme, the project is supposed to be 47% complete as at now but we are ahead of schedule as the project is 51% complete.”
The Minister, Kwame Governs Agbodza, commended Justmoh for his dedication and commitment to improving the road despite the financial constraints.
He said though the government owed the contractor, Justmoh remains committed to fixing the deplorable road.
He also admitted that delay in the payment of compensations to some of the project affected persons is adversely affecting the progress of work.
He explained that the money set aside for the payment of compensations was far lesser than what is on the ground.
He, however, said the Ghana Highways Authority has some allowances to apply for and was hopeful that the compensations would be paid.
