A police officer has been shot dead by armed robbers in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.
The unfortunate incident reportedly happened at Ahodwo Nhyiaeso, a suburb in the city, around 1am on Thursday.
The police have confirmed the death in a post on Facebook without revealing the name of the deceased officer.
According to the police, one person has been apprehended in connection with the robbery and has been detained.
The police also assured that they are doing everything possible to arrest all the suspects.
“The Ghana Police Service has arrested one person for robbery which occurred at about 1am on June 27, 2024, at Ahodwo, Nhyiaeso, in the Ashanti Region, resulting in the death of a Police officer.
“An intelligence operation is underway to get the remaining suspects arrested to face justice,” the police statement read.
Meanwhile, the paper has learnt that the policeman was accompanying a gold dealer to deliver gold at Nhyiaeso.
Unknown to them, the robbers had laid ambush and attacked the policeman and the gold dealer.
The hoodlums allegedly shot the policeman, seized his gun, took the gold and fled with his car.
The gold dealer, who was driving the vehicle, however, escaped unhurt, sources informed the paper.
