Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education

The Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) has joined in the celebration of this year’s World Youth Skills Day.

The celebration this year is under the theme: “Skills for a Resilient Youth.”

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Dr Fred Kyei Asamoah, in commemoration of the Day, COTVET says the coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the Important role skills acquisition by the youth plays in national development.

“If global economies are to recover and the unemployment created by the pandemic reversed, then skills acquisition by the youth needs to be highlighted,” the statement noted.

“TVET is crucial to winning the war against this pandemic because it can equip the youth with the skills for self-employment,” it said.

It added that “in addition, if there is the need for industries to shift their production in response to the pandemic, TVET increases responsiveness of the youth to these changes.”
