The Northern Regional Coordinating Council has lifted the ban it placed on entertainment activities at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tamale, Iddrisu Musah Superior, had earlierbanned all musical concerts at the Tamale Sports Stadium, following an accident involving some fans of Fancy Gadam and two staff members of Zylofon Group.

The fans were going to the Tamale Airport on Firday, June 29 to welcome Fancy Gadam and his Nigerian counterpart, Patoranking, for a mega show scheduled for Saturday, June 30, 2018.

The accident occurred when a vehicle conveying some of the teeming fans collided with an oncoming vehicle that had a tyre burst, causing the driver to veer off the road.

A statement from the council said the decision to restore entertainment events at the facility was arrived at after several consultations with stakeholders.

“Following various representations made to the Regional Security Council to intervene in the matter of the recent banning of entertainment activities at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, the Council has consulted the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Tamale on the issue.

“The Regional Security Council after an exhaustive consideration has decided to lift the ban that was placed while it allows the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly as the body responsible for regulating entertainment activities in the metropolis, to come out with strict procedures to guide such activities and related matters at the stadium and any other public place,” a statement from the Council said.

The statement further indicated that the conduct of any entertainment-related activity in the metropolis “requires the approval of the Tamale Metropolis Assembly which is to regulate such activities in line with their bye-laws.”
