James Agalga
As it is said that a drowning man will clutch at the straw, the NDC is ready to lean on straws in its attempt for power. Thus for any flimsy issues, the NDC will call for independent probe when administrative investigations can set minds at ease.
Last week when Ghana Gas and GRIDCo had issues and load had to be shed for a period, the NDC called for a probe.
Currently in circulation is a tape that some people choose to call the Dampare tape in which a top police officer and a politician believed to belong to the NPP are alleged to be plotting the removal of the IGP, Mr. George Akuffo Dampare because he will not help the NPP to break the eight.
Instantly, the NDC and their allies in the media, academia and civil society have jumped into the fray demanding all kinds of absurd interventions.
The Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee has described what is contained in the audio as treasonable and demanded an independent probe into the matter. He went further to question whether we have NPP or NDC IGPs in our present dispensation.
The NDC has always being populated by hypocrites who will call a goat a cow, otherwise why will Mr. Agalga be asking such a question when he knows the position of IGP is a political appointment?
In retrospect does Mr. Agalga remember Mr. John Kudalor who was IGP before the 2016 elections and serves on a committee at the NDC headquarters? What is the colour of his party while he was IGP? Food for thought.
Furthermore was Mr. Agalga in the country when the Ofosu-Ampofo tape popped up and did he call for a probe? He did not do so because that was not in the interest of the NDC.
We do not endorse activities that have the tendency to derail the stability of the country.
But let us tread cautiously in our demand for the right things to be done without politicising the issues. We appeal to the media, academia and civil society to help to enhance public discourse so that our democracy can endure to give the people the dividends of good governance.
The tendency by a section of the media, academia and civil society to dance to the tune of the NDC is dangerous and can only derail our democracy. Let the media, academia and civil society help the NPP and NDC to put their blueprints before the people for the decision in 2024. Any bias on their part will drown the ship of state with them.
The Minister of the Interior has dismissed the claim that the IGP will be dismissed, but we go a step further to call on the President to reassure the people that no such agenda is on the plate although he has the singular prerogative to appoint or fire the IGP. He shares that with nobody and he owes nobody an explanation.
