Dawu Chief Teaches ICT

Odeneho Asare Akyeahene III engaging some pupils

The Chief of Dawu, Odeneho Asare Akyeahene III has declared his intention to teach ICT in Junior High schools in the Dawu township as part of efforts to increase student interest in the subject.

Odeneho Asare Akyeahene made the disclosure at the commissioning of a state of the art ICT Centre at the Dawu Presby Basic School in the Akuapem North Municipal assembly last Thursday.

The ICT Centre which is a refurbished classroom block has a number of security features in place to protect the computers and other accessories from being stolen.

The Chief who is a Security and Technology expert explained that it was his responsibility to share his experiences in Information Communication Technology (ICT) with his people especially the younger generation.

Giving details of how he was going to handle the students, the Chief admitted that though he was a very busy man, he would create time for such a service which he believes will go a long way to help the staff and students.

A former assembly member of the community, Amo Larbi through whose efforts the Centre was established gave the value of the project as GH¢28, 000.

According to him the centre has ten new computers and accessories, a printer and nine modems for easy access to the internet.

While expressing his appreciation to his benefactors who assisted him to procure the items for the Centre, he  was delighted that students will now have the opportunity to access information from the internet to help their academic work besides being familiar with the various components of the computer.

The Head teacher of the Presbyterian Basic School, Bernice Bekoe lauded the former assembly member for the donation,  describing it as a dream come true.

She mentioned that most of the ICT lessons in the school were carried out in theory and occasionally students were taken out to a Communication Centre (Café) for practical lessons.

She assured that every effort will be made to protect the equipment so that many other students could benefit from them.
