The Regional Minister flanked by representatives of the security agencies
The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC), has declared a land area under dispute between Top Kings and Empire Builders located at East Legon in Accra a security zone starting from yesterday. This followed intelligence about an imminent clash between the two companies.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey made this known at press conference in Accra.
According to him, the decision would go a long way in ensuring peace in the entire area and the Greater Accra region as whole.
REGSEC as part of its mandate as stipulated in the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act 1030 section 7 among other things has declared the entire area under disputes a security zone with some additional measures to ensure all land guard related activities cease forth with.
“The entire area under dispute has been declared a security zone. Effective today, Thursday, 16th February, 2023, REGSEC has taken over security of the area. REGSEC would deploy security personnel to the area to ensure peace and calm. All land guard activities should cease henceforth,” Mr. Quartey said.
These decisions have been taken considering the fact that the situation has become a recipe for disaster.”
The Minister added that the Regional Security Council has in no way challenged the decisions of the courts, or interpreted the courts decisions nor determined the actual owners of the land but to ensure people do not breach the peace in the entire area in dispute
“We are doing this to ensure there is no breach of the peace in the entire area in dispute and region as a whole.
We therefore appeal to the Media to be circumspect in their reportage in order not to inflame passions that might undermine the security of the area,” he added.
