Pressure Group, Critical Thinkers International (CTI), says accusations that supporters of the incoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) government are behind the post-election attacks on members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are meant to tarnish the image of the party.
According to CTI, reports that supporters of the NPP had launched attacks on NDC supporters were fake.
CTI made this known in a statement signed by its spokespersons Adiepena Mirekua Sarpong, Edward Agyeman and Nana Parry.
The pressure group argued that the fake reports of attacks on NDC members were meant to paint the NPP black.
“NDC people attack at the least provocation because they are sore losers like Hillary Clinton’s supporters who lost the election to Trump (RNC),” according to CTI.
“Moreover, we have evidence of people in NDC shirts and colors walking safely among hundreds of people in NPP party colors at Asokwa, Bantama, and many other serious strongholds of the NPP, not even a finger was pointed at them by the jubilant people.”
President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to show kindness to each other in the wake of the supposed attacks after the elections.
Police
Some police chiefs had earlier debunked reports that the killing of two alleged NDC supporters in the aftermath of the party massive electoral defeat was politically motivated.
According to the police, the deaths of the alleged NDC supporters, Kwame Owusu, 31, in Sefwi Wiawso in the Western Region and Ayuba Akakpo, a head porter at Dunkwa-on-Offin in the Central Region, could not be linked to politics.
Chief Supt Francis Enor, the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Commander, said on radio that the murder of Owusu, believed to be the nephew of Western Regional Minister Paul Evans Aidoo, had nothing to do with politics.
He said it was a fight between two people.
The Municipal Police Commander at Dunkwa-on-Offin Superintendent Dela Dzansi also debunked reports that the NPP members attacked and killed an NDC man, Ayuba.
He told Rainbow Radio in Accra that it was an argument between two friends that went bad.
He also appealed to the public to cease spreading falsehoods and ascribing political motives to the crimes committed.
Owusu was allegedly stabbed to death by one Baffoe Bonney at Ewiase, near Sefwi Wiawso, last week Sunday after some misunderstanding.
Last week, NDC National Chairman, Kofi Portuphy, asked the party’s supporters to defend themselves from attacks by alleged NPP supporters.
He has been widely condemned by all, especially the police and the National Peace Council.
At a press conference, the NDC chairman said that following the party’s defeat on December 7, about 19 attacks had been launched on NDC supporters by supporters of the NPP and asked the leadership of the NPP to stop their supporters from attacking NDC supporters.
Interestingly, one of the cases mentioned by Kofi Portuphy has turned out to be a major hoax.
The alleged attack on comedian Ebenezer Osae Aryeh alias Wofa K, appears to be staged.
Pictures of the NDC activist had gone viral on social media.
He accused NPP supporters of assaulting him after NPP’s leader was declared winner of the election.
A family member of Ebenezer Osae Aryeh had told manassehazure.com that photos of his alleged attack by supporters of the NPP were fake.
“I’m 300 percent sure that the said attack is fake,” the source, who does not want to be named, said.
The family source said, “As far as we are concerned, no attack happened in the house here. And if he was attacked elsewhere and was taken to the hospital, at least one family member would have been called.”
The family source said all attempts by family members, including Wofa K’s mother, to get any answers from him have failed to yield any results.
