Paul Apreku Twum Barima
THE MEMBER of Parliament for Dormaa East Constituency, Paul Apreku Twum Barimah, has petitioned the national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ntim, to ensure calm is maintained ahead, during and after the party’s internal elections slated for November 4, 2023.
The petition indicated that peace and harmony are pre-requisites for the unity of the party going into the 2024 general elections.
It therefore prevailed upon party faithfuls and aspirants to exercise restraints by using languages that unify members.
Mr. Barimah also pleaded with any aggrieved individual or groups to shun violence and subversive intensions no matter the degree of provocation from supporters of opposing candidates.
He emphasized that any disaffection among the rank and file of the party could affect its fortunes in the general elections.
It must be known that on November 4th over 200,000 NPP delegates will cast their ballots to elect a Presidential Candidate for the 2024 election.
Four persons vying for the slot include the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh, and the former Agric Minister, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
Over 200,000 delegates from across the country will decide their fate to become the NPP’s flagbearer.
Winner of the primary will face it off with the opposition National Democratic Congress’s candidate, John Dramani Mahama, in the December 2024 general election.
