DUA Members Go To School

PLANS ARE in the pipeline for the leadership of the Democrat Union of Africa (DUA) to start organising Electoral Capacity Building Workshops for its members on the continent.

The educative programme would go a long way to help members of DUA to be abreast with modern political and campaign strategies to enable them win elections in their various countries.

Louisa Atta-Agyeman, Co-Chair of DUA, made the announcement during the 40 years anniversary celebration of the International Democrat Union (IDU), in London, United Kingdom (UK), recently.

According to her, DUA boasts of membership of 24 political parties in 18 African countries currently, and out of this number, only five of the political parties are currently in political power.

“Ghana’s NPP and the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLP) are in total control of government, the Malawi Congress Party, the Democratic Center Union (UCD) of Equatorial Guinea and Istiqlal of Morocco are in coalition.

“Already, our member party, PDP in Nigeria lost the presidential elections,” Louisa Atta-Agyeman bemoaned, stressing the need for the electoral capacity building workshops for DUA members to boost their chances of winning polls.

She also announced that the DUA executives have plans to establish sub-regional peer learning initiatives among member parties, noting that the new plans are intended to make the DUA members stronger and effective.

She disclosed that Co-Chairs of DUA would be embarking on working visits to their members in their home countries.

Ms. Atta-Agyeman also said DUA has plans to expand the DUA membership and subsequently their IDU membership, adding that the future looks bright for DUA and its members.

She also appealed to partners and members of the IDU to support the work of DUA “as we strive to advance our shared goals,” and applauded Konrad Adenauer Foundation for their help.

“We appreciate the efforts of our partners like the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, whose tremendous support has kept the DUA running till date,” she remarked.
