THE GERMAN Government is committing 160 million Euros as export credit guarantee to support trade relations between Ghana and Germany.
This is part of moves to deepen ties between the two countries.
Ghana’s Ambassador to Germany, Gina Ama Blay, announced this at Ghana’s 62nd Independence anniversary in Berlin recently.
According to Ambassador Blay, the German government recently established a desk at Access Bank to help disburse loans to support Ghana-German businesses.
She urged firms which qualified for the credit facility not to hesitate to access it.
“I hope those of you who qualify to access these funds will take advantage of such initiatives to explore business ventures in Ghana”, she said.
Mrs Blay also commended the German government for the establishment of a one billion Euro fund to support German and African small to medium-scale enterprises (SMEs).
The funding is part of German’s commitment to the G20 Compact with Africa initiative.
Germany’s government, the Ambassador explained, was increasing its support to Ghana especially to tackle youth unemployment.
She said youth unemployment was one of the reasons why the youth traveled through the Sahara desert to seek greener pastures in Europe.
To help reduce and possibly end this trend, the German government has established a skills training centre in Accra to provide requisite skills to the unemployed youth, she said.
She mentioned that the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation was also supporting several business start-ups, all aimed at deepening ties between the two countries.
The Ambassador commended Ghanaians in the diaspora, particularly those in Germany, for their support towards Ghana’s development especially through remittances and other contributions.
“As we commemorate 62 years of nationhood, it’s important to remind ourselves of the significant strides we have achieved in fostering peace and unity, and also promoting good governance”, she admonished.
