The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will be conducting the District Level Elections (DLEs) in Jasikan and Guan Districts on December 19, 2023.
This decision comes after the passage of the Constitutional Instrument (CI) that grants the EC the authority to hold the elections.
It should be noted that the nominations for the 2023 District Level Elections were not received on November 16th and 17th in Jasikan and Guan Districts, unlike in other districts. This discrepancy occurred because the CI 119, which was awaiting amendment, had not yet been approved by Parliament.
In a statement released on Monday, December 4, 2023, the EC announced that Nomination Forms can be obtained free of charge at the Jasikan and Guan District Offices of the Electoral Commission or on their website (www.ec.gov.gh).
The completed Nomination Forms must be submitted in quadruplicate by either the candidate, the proposer, or the seconder along with two copies of recent post-card sized photographs to the Returning Officer of the Electoral Area between Thursday, December 7th, and Friday, December 8th, 2023. Submissions can be made between the hours of 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on each day.
The EC further stated that nominations for the District Assembly Elections must be witnessed by the signatures or marks of the proposer and the seconder. Additionally, they must be supported by eighteen (18) other residents who are registered to vote in the Electoral Area.
For Unit Committee Elections, nominations must also be witnessed by the signatures or marks of the proposer and the seconder, and they must be supported by eight (8) other residents who are registered to vote in the Electoral Area.
