ECG Improves Power Supply In Adenta, Environs

Upgrade of Adenta Primary Substation from 40MVA to 80MVA ongoing

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has initiated major infrastructure upgrade project aimed at improving power supply quality and reliability in Adenta and its adjoining communities.

The project involves upgrading the capacity of the Adenta Primary Substation from 40MVA to 80MVA to address persistent erratic power supply caused by increasing load demand in the area.

As part of the upgrade, ECG is installing two new 30/39MVA power transformers to relieve the existing 20/26MVA transformers currently in operation at the substation.

When completed, the project is expected to deliver stable and improved power supply to customers in Adenta, Amrahia, Oyarifa, Danfa, parts of Madina, Teiman, and other adjoining communities.

During a media inspection tour of the project site in Adenta, the Acting General Manager of Accra Sub-transmission, Emmanuel Addo, explained that upon completion, the project is expected to significantly enhance power supply stability within Adenta and surrounding communities.

He noted that the upgrade will also strengthen the power network infrastructure to meet the growing electricity demand in the enclave.

“The Adenta enclave is currently supported by three 20/26 transformers, and the project intends to replace two of these 20/26 MVA transformers with new 30/39 MVA transformers. This upgrade aims to enhance the capacity of the transformers to accommodate the increasing demand”.

“The first phase will be completed on Friday, February 27, 2026. The timeline for the second phase will be determined after the successful commissioning of the first phase, which is currently under installation,” he stated.

Providing further details, the Regional General Manager for Accra East, Bismark Otoo, explained that customers in and around Adenta have been experiencing frequent outages due to a significant increase in load demand, which has outstripped the capacity of the existing transformers.

He emphasised that the upgrade has become necessary not only to resolve the current supply challenges but also to meet the future power needs of customers in Adenta and neighboring communities.

Mr. Otoo further revealed that similar projects are underway within the Accra East Region as part of ECG’s commitment to enhancing supply reliability and improving customer satisfaction.
