The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has installed a mobile substation at New Bortiano in Accra to curb the erratic interruptions in the supply of electricity to the area and its environs.
The station which would be completed next week is expected to avert challenges such as low voltage and power outages which have affected residents and businesses in the area in the past eight months.
Engineer Emmanuel Ankrah, the Accra West Engineer for ECG disclosed that the over GH¢350 million substation which houses about 20 MVA of power, is being done on temporary basis, can meet the electric power demands of the area.
He said challenges such as frequent power cuts, poor voltages and unreliable power supply would subside.
He indicated that the mobile facility would remain in the area until they get a permanent site for a new substation.
Engineer Ankrah also disclosed that similar projects are ongoing at other places such as Ablekuma, Korle Bu among others to boost the supply of power to their customers.
Rev. Dr. WireduAntwi, Chairman of West Hills Landlords and Residents Association who threw more light on the challenges on power supply challenges said the ongoing installation would help them and address issues like armed robbery in the area.
He said the were experiencing power outages for four days in a week, some of which lasted for 24 hours and officials of ECG are unable to schedule a timetable for them due to the nature of challenges the power distributor was facing.
He said some residents complained about their gadgets having been destroyed as a result of the intermittent power outages.
Rev. Dr. Antwi therefore, expressed gratitude to ECG for identifying the fault and mounting a mobile substation which will provide them with a stable power especially during the yuletide.
