ECOWAS Commission Rubbises Misleading Report On Ghana’s 2024 Polls

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has categorically denied predicting violence in Ghana’s 2024 elections, contrary to a sensational report by The Herald newspaper.

The Commission described the report as “dishonest” and “misleading.”

In a rejoinder, ECOWAS clarified that its pre-election fact-finding missions do not issue public statements on their findings, and reports are confidential.

The Commission emphasized that it has not predicted violence in Ghana’s electoral process at any point.

In a statement, ECOWAS expressed its esteem for Ghana as a model of democracy and tolerance, citing the country as an example for the region.

The Commission condemned attempts by the media to misuse its name and sow discord among Ghanaians through manipulation and partisan positions.

Reiterating its trust in Ghana’s democratic institutions, ECOWAS pledged to continue supporting the government and people of Ghana to deliver transparent, inclusive, and peaceful elections in December 2024.

The Commission’s clarification aims to set the record straight and reassure the public of its commitment to peaceful elections in the region.
