In 1956 F.R.J Davies, the officer in charge of all education in New Zealand’s Pacific Dependences who was on an eight-month education tour of the world, arrived in Accra.
He arrived on a flight called the Dove at the time. He had been engaged by the UNESCO to study the educational principles of the tropical world of which the Gold Coast is a part.
He was also charged with gathering new ideas on community development and practical education. The expert has also visited places like Singapore, Calcutta, Amsterdam and Nigeria.
While in the Gold Coast, Mr. Davies visited Winneba, Kumasi and Tamale to meet education officers.
At the end of the visit he was expected to leave the country by Pan American Airways for the West Indies.
