EKMA Boss Pledges Maximum Election Security

The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) is putting in place adequate security arrangements towards the maintenance of peace and security before, during and after the December 7 general election in the area.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Kojo Acquah, who revealed this said the municipality is relatively calm and that the Security Agencies had responded to various security emergencies that had occurred.

He was speaking at the 3rd Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of EKMA.

Mr. Acquah implored the residents not to allow themselves to be hoodwinked into orchestrating malicious schemes against or in favour of political actors.

He warned that all perpetrators of such crimes would be prosecuted.

The MCE commended the security agencies for collaborating during their patrols to reduce the rate of crimes by checking unscrupulous behaviours ahead of the coming elections.

“I will urge the public to volunteer information concerning suspicious activities to the security agencies to help protect the integrity of our elections and maintain the peace we have long enjoyed,” he pleaded.

On the issue of revenue, the MCE indicated that the total budgeted revenue for 2024 was GH¢97,544,679.89.

He mentioned that the total amount, cumulatively realised so far stood at GH¢56,107,812.51.

Kojo Acquah told the assembly members that the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) collected as at September 2024, was GH¢3,509,173.87.

He disclosed that the amount represents 75.99% collection rate of IGF projection of GH¢4,617,759.50.

He mentioned that the total expenditure budget for the period was GH¢ 97,544,679.89, while the Assembly’s actual expenditure amounted to GH¢ 59,502,500.65 as at September 30, 2024.

The EKMA boss explained that the huge budget figures for the revenue and expenditure of the Assembly was as a result of the combined implementation of the 4th and 5th Year Projects under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP).

On the issue of health, the MCE noted that the municipality continued with the delivery of out-patient and in-patient services in all health facilities in the area during the period under review.

He disclosed that statistics indicated a total of 63,556 people were seen at the various facilities, out of which 3,048 were admitted.

“Unfortunately, 33 of them died. There was however, no maternal death recorded in the third quarter”, he added.
