The Electoral Commission (EC) will open nominations for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections on Monday, September 9, 2024.
A statement issued and signed by the Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, disclosed that the nominations will close on Friday, September 13, 2024.
It said the filing fee for presidential candidates is pegged at GH¢100,000, with a reduced fee of GH¢75,000 for female candidates and persons with disabilities in accordance with the 2020 Public Elections Regulations.
It said, “Candidates vying for the position of President will be required to make a payment of One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢100,000.00) at the time of submitting their Nomination Forms.”
It also stated that parliamentary candidates are required to pay a fee of GH¢10,000, with a reduced fee of GH¢7,500 for female candidates and persons with disabilities.
The EC further said interested candidates can download nomination forms from the EC’s website from today, Friday, August 2, 2024, while nomination forms will be accepted between 9:00am and 12:00 noon, and again from 2:00pm to 5:00pm each day during the nomination period.
“Payment shall be by banker’s draft and addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. Female candidates and persons with disabilities are required to pay Seventy-Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢75,000).
“Candidates vying for the position of Member of Parliament will be required to make a payment of Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢10,000.00) to the Returning Officer of the Constituency at the time of submitting their Nomination Forms,” it added.
According to the statement, all matters concerning the presidential elections should be directed to the EC Chairperson, while issues related to parliamentary elections should be addressed to the Returning Officers of the constituencies.
