Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum

Deputy Minister of Education in-charge of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has called on heads of schools and teachers to encourage young women to pursue courses in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

He believes girls can flourish and obtain rewarding careers if they pursue STEM courses.

Dr Adutum indicated that industries in the country are looking for people with skills in the area of science and technology.

Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Mamponteng over the weekend, the Deputy Education Minister said females, with little support could get skills, confidence and drive to pursue STEM subjects.

According to him, “Holistic education and total development of the country as touted by President Akufo-Addo also encompass getting more of females into the workforce.”

He called on the public not to worry about the Free SHS programme, noting that the policy has come to stay and would forever be a core policy of government.

He made the disclosure at the installation of Warren Staley, the US philanthropist, as Nkosuohene for establishing a community Senior High School for the Mamponteng Traditional Authority and the Catholic Church.

Dr Adutwum expressed government’s appreciation to the American and his wife for their charity work.

He also praised Nana Asaase Ayeboafo, Chief of Mamponteng for his instrumentality in the setting up Our Lady of Grace SHS.

Mr. Warren Staley and his wife, Mary Lynn, were honoured for their charity work at Mamponteng and its environs in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Nana Saase Ayeboafo, Chief of Mamponteng, praised the couple for contributing towards the development of the community and urged others to emulate the Americans.

Swearing the oath of allegiance, Mr Staley, a retiree, said they were honoured and delighted to be made natives of Mamponteng.

He thanked the chief and his people for the honour and pledged to continue to support the community and its environs.
