Ahenkorah speaking at the event

THE ENERGY Commission of Ghana has announced that in the coming weeks, it will be inspecting electrical wirings in buildings in the country.

According to the Commission, the move was to prevent fire outbreaks that are usually associated with the use of substandard electrical equipment.

Executive Secretary of Energy Commission, Dr. Alfred Ofosu Ahenkorah made this known on Tuesday, March 19, in Accra at the 11th electrical wiring certificate awards presentation.

He noted that by law, buildings in Ghana – both commercial and residential – are supposed to have their electrical wirings inspected every 10 years.

He also indicated that buildings in Ghana are supposed to have smart devices to protect themselves from electrical faults that lead to fire outbreaks.

Fire outbreaks in Ghana resulting electrical faults are not uncommon.

DGN Online understands hotels and other commercial properties will not be left out in the inspection exercise.
