The late Rt. Rev. Dr. Seth Senyo Agidi,
The Volta Region was thrown into a state of mourning over the weekend when the mortal remains of the immediate past Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church, Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Seth Senyo Agidi, was laid to rest.
Rev. Dr. Agidi was buried at the Ho-Kpodzi Missionary cemetery at the E.P. Church Headquarters after an elaborate burial service and funeral was also done at the Dela Cathedral of the Church at Ho Kpodzi in the Ho Municipality.
The regional capital came to a standstill when the body arrived in town on Thursday, February 25, 2021, as a procession through the principal streets saw residents and members of the church rushing to catch a glimpse of the hearse amid wailing before the filing-past of the body of the late clergyman.
The Rev. Dr. Agidi, 65, died on October 10, 2020 after a short illness at the Ho Teaching Hospital. He is survived by Mrs. Madeleine Akpene Kadji-Agidi and four children.
Rev. Dr. Agidi, who was the second Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church after a change from the Synod status, trained as a teacher before his Theology degree at the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon. His post graduate studies was at the Eden Theological Seminary, United States of America.
He is credited for his continues emphasis on doing good and preparing for the afterlife as well as his support for the aged and disadvantaged in the society.
In his sermon, the current Moderator of the General Assembly of the E.P. Church, Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Bliss Divine Kofi Agbeko (Rtd.), assured all that the death of a man of God was not the end of God’s power.
Similarly, “The death of the late Moderator does not mean God has deserted the church,” but an indication that the time had come for that person to take a rest, indicating that even in death God’s power is still active.
He said the former Moderator prior to his demise received prayer and physical care, “God knows what will be best for the late Moderator and the church.”
The wife of the late Moderator, in her tribute, said her late husband was a peace-loving person who never held grudges for long, “he preferred to make known his displeasure and then let go of the issue.”
President Akufo-Addo, who was represented by the Dr. Archibald Letsa, the Regional Minister-designate, donated GH¢20,000 to the family and the Church.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentarians donated GH¢20,000 and former President John Dramani Mahama through the NDC National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, donated GH¢5,000.
