Eugene Osafo-Nkansah Grabs Best Showbiz Blogger Award

Entertainment journalist Eugene Osafo-Nkansah has been adjudged Best Showbiz Blogger and Online Writer of The Year Award at the just-ended City People Entertainment Awards 2016 in Nigeria.

The celebrated writer has been nominated for the award thrice since 2013. He is the producer of Peace FM’s Entertainment Review, the entertainment editor for peacefmonline.com and administrator of Nkonkonsa.com.

Mr Osafo-Nkansah won the enviable award after he beat some entertainment writers, including  Zion Felix Adomako of Zionfelix.net, Francis Addo of Ghanareporter.com, Ebenezer Nana Yaw Donkoh of NYDJLive, Cypress of Cypressghana.com, Isaac Kwaku Aidoo of Ghkwaku.com, Ameyaw Debrah of Ameyawdebrah.com and Ebenezer Anangfio of Ghanagist.com to win the award.

The City People Entertainment Awards (CPEA) is an annual award ceremony with the primary objective of recognising, celebrating and awarding the contributions of the creative arts sector in Africa.

The award ceremony, in its seventh year, also highlights others who continue to make an impact in the immediate communities in Nigeria or extended communities in the Diaspora.

The name Eugene Osafo-Nkansah is a familiar name in Ghana’s creative arts sector. He started as a co-coordinator for One Soul International, an event company he registered with five other friends and in 2002, organised the first ever ‘second cycle’ rap, dance and basketball competition ever organised at the Aviation Social Centre dubbed ‘Up In The Smoke Fiesta’.

In 2004, Eugene started with his own entertainment weekly newspaper called Ghana Billboard, which he was the editor.

Mr Osafo-Nkansah has been a part of almost every entertainment discussion programme on radio in Accra. He was the producer for Solid Gold Countdown, aired on Radio Gold every Saturday presented by Mutala Mutare (Prime Eye). He later became the producer for 205, an entertainment discussion programme on the then Channel ‘R’ 92.7 FM presented by D.J Abio and also on Abeiku Santana’s programme Efie Kwan So.

He had a-15minutes segment titled Celebrity Watch which took a critical look at things celebrities do in private on the blind side of the public.

Eugene was a member of categorisation committee for the Ghana Music Awards for three years and the head of research for Vodafone Ghana Music Award (VGMA) from 2010 to 2015.

Eugene has also managed artistes like Nana King, Ex-Doe, A-Plus and several others. He has also worked as publicists for several celebrities, including Kwaw Kese, Becca, Hammer of The Last Two, Edem, Nana Ama Mcbrown, Afia Schwarzenegger, Guru, Okyeame Kwame, Samini, Mzbel, among others.
