In a surprising turn of events, the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira New Patriotic Party (NPP) election has been cancelled due to confusion over the polling centre.
Originally scheduled to take place at Gwira-Bamiako, the decision was made to shift the location to a neutral centre in Ellembelle following recent demonstrations over the underdevelopment of the area.
However, despite the advice from the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), the Western Regional NPP Executives were determined to hold the election at Gwira-Bamiako. This led to the setup of two different centres, one at Gwira-Bamiako and the other at Axim, which ultimately confused the Electoral Commission.
In response to this confusion, the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira NPP Primaries have been called off this morning. Western Regional NPP Secretary, Okatekyire Afrifa Amankwah, expressed frustration and disappointment as he confirmed the cancellation to Citi News. He also mentioned that the primaries have been postponed indefinitely due to the polarization within the party caused by one candidate’s attempt to choose the location for the election.
The Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira NPP Primaries have been the center of attention as former MP, Catherine Abelema Afeku, contests against Justice Kangah, a prominent businessman. With the cancellation of the primaries, it remains uncertain when the election will be rescheduled and how this will affect the outcome of the race.
