A 33-year-old man, who allegedly posed as a senior police officer to dupe unsuspecting people in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, is in trouble.
The suspect, who is now in police custody, supposedly defrauded people under the pretext of assisting them to get enlisted into the Ghana Police Service through protocol.
Unknown to the suspect, who claimed to be a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), the Manhyia Divisional Police Command, had information on his illegal activities and so monitored him until he was eventually apprehended.
ACP Kwaku Buah, the Divisional Commander, confirmed the arrest of the suspect on Otec FM in Kumasi but he refused to disclose his identity due to security reasons.
“We are still interrogating him to know if he’s working with some people so we can also arrest those people to face the law. If we disclose his identity now, it may affect our investigations.”
ACP Buah said: “Eight people who wanted to join the Ghana Police Service have been duped by the suspect, but we suspect the number could be more.”
The Manhyia Divisional Police Commander therefore appealed to the public, notably those that have been defrauded by the suspect, to report to the police immediately.
ACP Buah also admonished the public, especially those that want to join the Ghana Police Service, to always use the right channels.
