Fake Soldier Nabbed In BA

A 30-year-old man, Darling Acheampong alias IK, has been arrested by the police at Sankore in the Brong-Ahafo Region for allegedly causing harm to a driver and his mate and in the process, damaged the vehicle on which they were travelling.

Darling, whose three accomplices are said to be on the run, is currently in the grips of the police and helping in their investigations.

The regional crime officer, Superintendent Nana Kwaku Duah, who briefed DAILY GUIDE, said a searched conducted in Darling’s room revealed a military uniform, two single barrel guns and 4 rounds of ammunition.

He said a complainant (owner) of the vehicle reported to the police that on 28th March, 2017, his Mercedes Benz truck being driven by one Issiful Isaaka, and his mate, Akwesi Evans, were travelling to Sefwi but decided to stop at Kyenkyen Sibuoso near Sankore, to say hello to the chief of the town and that on their return saw Darling and his cohorts having surrounded the truck – with registration number GR 2231-L.

Supt Nana Duah said they reportedly demanded money from the driver but could not get some. They became angry and allegedly damaged the vehicle by breaking the wind screen and other parts and hurt the driver on the head. He said they eventually made away with some unspecified amount of money.

Supt Nana Kwaku Duah said after the purported crime, the four suspects absconded and the police have been looking for them. Upon police intelligence, Darling, the supposed leader of the gang, was arrested yesterday.

According to the regional crime officer, Darling will be processed for court on the charges of causing damage to property and possessing army accoutrements without lawful authority.

DAILY GUIDE later learnt that the suspect had been released on bail to the displeasure of the complainant who told DAILY GUIDE on telephone that the police wanted to give the case a political twist.
