In response to a call for assistance, a benevolent family has presented food items and assorted toiletries to the children’s ward of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
The donation, which was presented by Nana Akosua Adoma on behalf of her family with support from Majestic Line Enterprise to the ward, is expected to support the daily activities of the unit.
The items, worth about GH?1,500, included six bags of rice, 25 litres Frytol cooking oil, 20 bags sachet water, half box of Lele sachet tomato paste, a bag of Annapurna salt, two packs of toilet roll, three boxes of biscuit and 12 crates of soft drinks.
“It’s a gift of God. We saw an advert and we decided to aid them. It’s not easy to give but as much as possible, we should donate to the needy, especially the physically and mentally challenged,” she highlighted.
Mrs. Adoma, who was touched by the poor condition of the unit, urged other benevolent individuals and humanitarian organisations to consider helping the needy in society.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, Francisca Ntow from the Public Relations Office of Accra Psychiatric Hospital, lauded the efforts made by the donors and encouraged the public to emulate the steps of Nana Akosua Adoma and family to keep the hospital active.
“We are grateful to them, if every individual brings us some of the items; it will go long way to improve service delivery,” she pointed out.
Currently, the children’s ward of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital has 14 patients and about 30 caretakers, but the facility is fraught with lack of adequate financial support, which the officials say hampers service delivery.
