Fellaini Offers £2.6m Loan To Former Side

Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini is to loan his old side Standard Liege £2.6million to help them avoid financial ruin.

The Belgian club were already in economic trouble before the coronavirus crisis which the pandemic has exacerbated.

In April, the national federation refused to grant Liege a licence due to unpaid premiums owed to players.

There is a possibility of administrative demotion from the top flight and the Belgian Pro League was the first European division to be cancelled during the coronavirus crisis.

The club have asked for former players to help them out the hole they find themselves in and Belgian media are reporting that Fellaini will offer them a loan.

The 32-year-old Shandong Luneng player, formerly of Everton and Manchester United, joins Axel Witsel in lending a hand.

Witsel made almost 150 appearances for the club over five years between 2006 and 2011.

He put in £1.3m with a group of investors seeking to buy the club’s stadium and then rent it back to them, thereby raising the cash they need to stay afloat.

Liege are confident they can remain solvent and appealed the decision from the Belgian FA not to give them a licence to the Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport (CBAS).
