Scenes from the fire

THE MAFARA Hotel at Tamale, belonging to former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, which has been burnt by fire, was fully insured, it has been announced.

Son of the late ex-vice president, Farouk Aliu Mahama, who made the announcement, disclosed that the insurance company had started to assess the extent of damage.

According to him, the insurance company, whose name he did not mention, were informed about the fire outbreak and they (insurance company) sent their men to the place.

“The personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the insurance company have visited the place already to assess the extent of the damage,” he said on Hello FM.

Farouk disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that an air condition switch in one of the rooms of the 15-room hotel triggered the inferno to cause the damage.

According to him, even though the inferno consumed everything in its path, luckily, no death or human injuries were recorded “and that alone is pleasant news.”

Farouk, a staunch Muslim, stated that the family of the late veep has left the calamity into the hands of Allah “because Allah, the creator of mankind, knows what is best for us.”

He recounted the crucial services that the Mafara Hotel had rendered to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the past, saying “all party events at Tamale were held there.”

Farouk, who was billed to travel from his Accra base to Tamale on Thursday, to personally see the extent of damage, said the hotel would bounce back strong.

The late Vice President’s son said his father constructed the hotel after he had left political office, assuring that everything would be done to get the hotel back into business.
