TWO people lost their lives in a domestic fire which engulfed a five-bedroom house at Worakese near Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region.

The deceased persons have been identified as Adwoa Agyakoma, who was believed to be 90 years old, and Yaw Mensah, who is also said to be 11 years old.

According to reports from firefighters, the inferno started in the house on Friday, March 11, 2022, around 3:40am, when the inhabitants were fast asleep.

Residents of Worakese then placed a distressed call to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Mampong area, who rushed to the scene to fight the fire.

But before the firefighters reached the scene, the inferno had already trapped and killed the 90-year-old woman and the eleven-year-old boy beyond recognition.

The Ashanti Regional Spokesperson of the GNFS, DO III Peter Addai, said the cause of the fire was not immediately known as investigations were still underway.

According to him, even though the blaze was intense and dangerous, the personnel of the GNFS did their utmost best to bring it under control in no time.

DO III Addai said some valuable items were destroyed by the blaze, adding that but for the efforts of the firefighters, more properties would have been destroyed.

He admonished the public to install early fire warning systems at vantage points in houses and offices at all times in order to help prevent fire disasters.

DO III Addai also entreated house owners to place fire extinguishers in their properties (houses and offices), so they could fight fire before it gets out of hand.
