Daily Guide staff with the FNB Bank team
Some officials of First National Bank (FNB) yesterday paid a working visit to the Daily Guide Network ahead of the bank’s maiden Journalism Academy and Media training in Accra.
The Bank’s officials included the Head of Marketing and Brands Manager, Delali Dziedzenyo, and his colleague, Gwendy Laryea as well as FNB’s partners from South Africa.
Mr. Dziedzenyo said apart from introducing some of the Bank’s key partners and facilitators from South Africa to the company ahead of the events, the visit was also aimed at strengthening the relationship between the two institutions.
He said the Bank, in partnership with the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UNIMAC-GIJ), will hold a two-day training workshop from March 19 -20 for some selected business and financial journalists across the country.
He said the academy is expected to host 50 journalists with experienced facilitators who would train them in areas including trends in financial reporting, financial statement analysis and the use of artificial intelligence in journalism.
Mr. Dziedzenyo further said FNB hopes to increase the scope of topics in financial reporting while offering opportunity for other journalists to participate in the workshop.
He mentioned that former Chair person of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei, Charles Mensah, an accomplished chartered accountant are among some of the key facilitators who will make presentations on corporate law and other aspects of financial statement reporting adding that participants would be issued with certificates at the end of the training.
Mr. Dziedzernyo also commended Daily Guide for its reliable source of political and economic news, compelling content which has attracted millions of readership across the country.
Prof. Nixon, Karithi of Tangaza media, one of the lead facilitators for the workshop said the training was instituted about 10 years ago in South Africa to provide media practitioners especially business and financial reporters the opportunity to enhance their reportage on economic news.
Prof. Nixon, who is also an economic journalist, said the training would also change journalists’ perspectives on economic reporting describing it as “emancipation of journalists”
Editor of the Daily Guide, Jamila Akweley Okertchiri, thanked the team for the visit adding that given the importance of financial reporting to the development of the country, the workshop provides a unique opportunity for participants to improve their business reporting skills.
She said considering the exigencies of the times where reporters are expected to be versatile with diverse reporting skills, the training would help participants better appreciate economic as well as business trends locally and internationally while pledging the company’s readiness to continue to partner FNB to provide the needed coverage especially on financial education to the public.
Also present at the meeting were Lekha Gozai, PR Manager at FNB South Africa, the Head of Marketing at Daily Guide, Osborn Kwame Duah Abunyah and a reporter from the newsroom.
