Some access roads in the Ashanti Region have been rendered unmotorable, following a heavy downpour on Wednesday evening.
The rainfall also resulted in the flooding of a number of communities, submerging structures sited on waterways, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), has confirmed.
According to the disaster management body, some areas in the Suame, Asokwa, Oforikrom and Asokore-Mampong Municipalities as well as the Bosomtwe District designated as flood-prone remained the worst affected.
Regional NADMO Coordinator, Kwabena Nsenkyire, briefing the media in Kumasi, said the authorities were still counting the cost of the damage left in the wake of the rainstorm.
He said they were mobilizing resources to assist the most affected victims, warning that people ought to take precautionary measures since the rainy season has commenced.
When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited some of the affected areas, including Jachie and Kuntanase, the main road from those areas to Kumasi had been blocked, and commuters had to divert, using either the Sewua or Adagya link roads.
Similar scenes were also witnessed at Abuakwa-Manhyia in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District, resulting in heavy traffic congestion in the area, especially on the Abuakwa-Sofo-Line main road.
Meanwhile, the NADMO has confirmed investigating reports that a minor was missing at Sawaba in the Asokore-Mampong Municipality, after some areas in the community flooded on Wednesday evening.
