Fulani Robber Gets 18 Years

A 32-YEAR-OLD robber suspected to be of Fulani extraction, Braima Seidu, who was nabbed when one of his victims recognised him at Kumasi Aboabo, has been jailed by the Bekwai circuit court.

Seidu was spotted at the Kumasi suburb by Mamuna Yahaya (the victim), some weeks after the terrifying incident which occurred on April 25, 2015 at their home. She and her husband suffered machete wounds and reportedly lost GH?1,500.

Mamuna and her husband, Yahaya Musa, were attacked by the convict and his accomplices numbering four, at Mpatasie near Trede in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.

Thirty-two-year-old Braima Seidu, whom detectives linked to the theft of 15 cows in a stable that was near the complainants’ abode, was found guilty of robbery and sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment in hard labour at the end of the trial yesterday.

Prosecutor, Detective Inspector Stephen Ofori, informed the court, presided over by Fredrick Nawura, that the complainants, who are husband and wife, are tribesmen of Braima Seidu who are residents of Bomfa.

According to him, Musa Yahaya one day unraveled Braima Seidu’s series of cow thieveries – spanning between 2013 and 2015 – which development unsettled the convict and the other gangsters.

They later proceeded to the home of the complainant and ordered him and his wife to vacate the place or they would be handed a terrifying experience, the police prosecutor narrated.

Inspector Ofori said on April 25, 2015 at about 7:00 pm, the convict and his accomplices, who are currently at large, carried out their threat and attacked Musa and his wife at their home.

He added that the gang tied Musa’s hands to his back with a rope, severally slashed him with machetes and mercilessly assaulted his wife in the process before dispossessing them of GH?1,500.

The gangsters then dumped the couple into a room and locked them up before escaping with their booty.

The prosecutor indicated that Mamuna Yahaya recognized the convict as someone she knew and later reported the incident to the police.

Seidu was later arrested and charged with robbery after police investigation, but denied the offence in his caution statement.
