Popular Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has been named one of Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Most Influential Women in International Film.”’
The list, released on Friday, May 9, highlights 46 women from around the world who are making a big impact in the global film industry. This is a major achievement for Akindele and adds to her growing international recognition.
Akindele is well known for her hit movies like Omo Ghetto: The Saga, A Tribe Called Judah, and the TV series Jenifa’s Diary. She is one of the most successful stars in Nollywood.
Reacting to the news on Instagram on May 14, she said, “To be recognised among 46 powerful, visionary women from around the world is more than a moment of celebration—it’s a call to keep building, creating boldly, and lifting others as we rise,” she wrote.
Akindele also congratulated fellow Nigerian Mo Abudu, who was also included in the list. She praised Abudu for her work in promoting African stories and inspiring others.
This recognition is seen as a proud moment for Nollywood and a big step for African women in the global film industry.
