Scene from the explosion wreckage
Five people have been rendered homeless following a gas explosion that damaged a three-storey building at North Patasi in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, yesterday.
The explosion, which happened at about 4:00am, led to the destruction of the property of the occupants of the 15-bedroom house.
A man, who has been traumatized after the incident, was said to have lighted a match stick to put on his gas cooker to heat water but the fire started as a result of the leakage of the gas, an eyewitness told DAILY GUIDE.
He escaped unhurt but his property and that of other tenants were gutted by the inferno that engulfed the apex of the three-storey building.
“The man just shouted for people to evacuate the building and there was a massive blast and the upper part of the house trembled,” a female resident narrated.
Another eyewitness, who gave his name as Paa Kwesi, stated that fire fighters used five fire tenders to quench the inferno.
According to him, many people run helter-skelter after the gas explosion to avoid the devastation.
