Lt. Col Nimako (left) honoured at GAW Literary Awards
COL. Richard Danso Nimako, Deputy Director, Intelligence for Training at the Department of Defence Intelligence (DI) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has been awarded the best Creative, Non-Fiction writer with his book titled “Steps for the Progress of the Black Race” at the 6th Ghana Association of Writers (GAW) Literary Awards 2022.
Lt. Col. Nimako was among 19 other award winners who were celebrated for their creativity on the night.
The event was held at the Omanye Aba Hall at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Saturday, 21 January, 2023.
The awards brought together writers across the country and sought to foster the development of good literature to encourage the study, documentation, and preservation of our oral traditions and cultural elements and to awaken, cultivate and educate the literary consciousness of the Ghanaian public.
In a keynote address, Chairman of the Ghana Culture Forum, Asare Konadu Yamoah, congratulated the winners for this their work. He urged the award winners to establish and maintain suitable relationships with other writer organisations and allied institutions, as well as local and foreign publishers and the literary world at large.
President of GAW, Dr. Camynt Abaedzie, in his address said it was in light of honouring its members that GAW reintroduced its awards dubbed “GAW Literary Awards” some six years ago.
According to him, the purpose was to appreciate, celebrate and honour the writers of various genre which belonged to their association.
