Gbenyo Lifts Prez Putter

Anthony Gbenyo recorded an impressive 141 score (one under par) over two days to lift this year’s Celebrity Golf Club President’s Putter in the pros category in Sakumono on Saturday.

For his efforts, he received a special cash prize, a trophy, Tang Palace Hotel voucher and the flagship prize — President’s Putter to beat 34 other pros.

A two over par results(144) handed Philip Paitey the second prize of a trophy and a cash prize, while John ‘Wonders’ Mawuli finished third with a  three over par (145) result to also receive a trophy and a cash prize.

It was Richard Agyei, playing 22 in front and 21 on back (43 points), who picked the Scratch event overall prize, while Alfred Kwami, 37, and Felix Louis Antonio (36 points) followed in that order.

Young Bernice Esi Dzitorwoko finished first in the ladies group A with 36 stableford points, while Jessica Tei and Grace Afriyie followed with 32 and 31 points respectively.

Aliya Iddriss topped the ladies category B with 38 points with Celebrity Golf Club lady captain, Helen Appah, 33 and Vastie Amoafo Yeboah, 30, finishing second and third respectively.

Zhang Dong Jan won the men’s Group A with 39 points, while Kwaku Okyere (38 points) beat Church Ansah by two strokes for the second place.

Felix Akuamoah dominated the men’s Group B with 41 points, while Akwasi Prempeh picked the seniors ultimate prize with 161 score (19 over par).

Club President Tank Hong, who is also the CEO of Tang Palace Hotel, Accra, commended all, particularly John Mawuli, for his commitment in ensuring the competition was a huge success.

He said, “I am happy to inform you that our dream to establish a youth academy has finally materialised. Wonder’s Rising Stars Golf Academy has been born. The goal is to groom talented juveniles to become golf professionals.

“We also thank Tang Palace Hotel, headline sponsor of this tournament, for their continued support and promotion of golf,” Tank Hong added.

The competition drew close to 200 golfers across the country.
