The camp tents being removed by NADMO officials
The Sawla camp established for displaced individuals of the Gbiniyiri conflict has officially been closed down by government.
The Gbiniyiri conflict in the Savannah Region occurred over a parcel of land between two factions, and resulted in the deaths of about 31 persons, displacement of 50,000 people, with several others sustaining gunshot wounds and burning of houses as well as other properties during the clash.
The Savannah Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Mahama Zakaria, told journalists that adequate security and measures have been put in place to ensure safety of the displaced individuals returning home.
“Security personnel have been deployed to the affected communities just to ensure that they live in peace without any reprisal attacks, and some have been stationed at vantage points to ensure that they can respond promptly to calls,” he assured.
Meanwhile, the displaced individuals who agreed to return to their various communities are appealing to the government to ensure adequate security for their safety at the various communities.
They are also requesting support from government to help them rebuild their lives, as they lost their crops and livestock due to the conflict.
