Management of the Ghana Post Company Limited has dismissed a ‘fictitious’ story by Daily Heritage, which claims the company is seeking to lay off about 90 percent of its staff due to the lack of knowledge of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
A press release issued by the Head of Corporate Communications, Ghana Post Company, Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan-Bekoe, stated that “in the said publication, the editor alluded to the fact that after a crunch meeting on the effective running of the digital elements being synchronized into the operation of Ghana, management of Ghana Post Company decided to retrench at least 90% of the staff instead of spending huge sums of money to train them in ICT when they would retire in the next five years.”
“Management of Ghana Post wishes to deny claims made by the paper,” the release said, explaining that the Ghana Post has been on a digitization path by introducing e-Commerce, e-Services, financial services and courier services that rely on ICT.
It, however, indicated that Ghana Post’s operations go beyond ICT.
“The postal operations cover an entire supply chain network from acceptance to delivery and therefore require manual operations to complement technology.
The release revealed that as part of plans to transform the business to drive efficiency, Ghana Post, under the Ministry of Communications, launched the Digital Addressing System in 2017.
