A record producer and creative entrepreneur, Kofi Boachie-Ansah, claims that the music being produced in Ghana is generally of lower quality than that of its neighbours.

Boachie-Ansah, also known as Beatmenance in the entertainment industry, claims that the low quality of Ghanaian song production has hampered the development of the country’s musical culture.

He said this at the third National Music Summit, which the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) conducted in conjunction with World Music Day celebrations.

“There is a general lack of quality when comparing the music we produce to that from our neighbours in terms of poor production quality.  The overall technical and artistic quality of our music must be intentional,” he continued.

He pointed out that many Ghanaian music producers struggle to find the correct mixes, which he says is a major issue that has hampered Ghana’s musical development.

He added that the decline of Ghanaian music has been exacerbated by the absence of a distinctive musical identity, and that this issue would continue unless Ghanaian musicians start to take an interest in it.

In order to broaden their musical horizons and become more flexible, Beatmenance pushed Ghanaian musicians to experiment with different musical genres.
