GH¢15,000 Cash For KATH Children’s Surgical Ward

The donors presenting the cheque of GH¢15,000 to Dr Michael Amoah, as Dr Kafui Segbefia looks on with joy

Managers of the children’s surgical ward at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi have received a cash donation of GH¢15,000.

Four groups presented the cash to mark this year’s annual May Day celebration.

They are Berndt Luther Foundation, Krokrome Foundation, Lions Forex Bureau and Pretty Ups Company Limited & Construction.

Berndt Owusu, CEO of Berndt Luther Foundation, said the presentation was in response to an appeal made by the ward for financial help.

He stated that the four groups contributed money and donated it to KATH to help defray medical bills of needy patients who receive treatment at the ward.

Dr Michael Amoah, paediatric surgeon at KATH, received the cheque for GH¢15,000 during a colourful ceremony at the hospital on Monday.

He said most of the children who are treated at the ward come from poor homes so their parents usually struggle to settle their medical bills after treatment.

Dr Amoah said the Medical Students Association (MSA), therefore, formed a committee to seek financial support from the public to support for the children.

He commended the donors for responding positively to the appeal made by the MSA, stressing that the money could take care of medical bills of, at least, one kid.

Dr Amoah bemoaned the lack of key equipment such as patient monitor, which is very useful in the treatment of patients.

He, therefore, appealed passionately to the public to come to the aid of the KATH children’s surgical ward so that they could save more precious human lives.

Nana Osei Kwame of Krokrome Foundation said his NGO would adopt one ward at KATH and help address their pressing needs very soon.

He said again that Krokrome Foundation and Berndt Luther Foundation would team up and support needy people in the hinterlands of the country this year.
