The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has denied ‘snubbing’ investors at a meeting between the Spanish-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (SGCC) and the Centre which was called off on September 24, 2020 due to the late arrival of a representative of the government agency.
In a reaction, the GIPC confirmed its invitation to the said meeting even though its chief executive was unable to attend due to other engagements.
“As an investment promotion agency that greatly values engagements with the business and investor community, a director from the centre was promptly dispatched to the event to represent the GlPC, which he made an appearance,” the GIPC said in a statement.
The Agency also disclosed that there had been prior engagement between the head of public relations of the Centre and the General Secretary of SGCC to apologise for the inability of CEO to make an appearance, “which fell on deaf ears.”
“Despite the Centre’s effort, the organisers of the event i.e. the Spain-Ghana Chamber of Commerce decided to call off the programme, a subsequent attempt by the Centre to reach out to the Chamber as a sign of goodwill has been futile as several calls from the Centre to the Secretary General of the SGCC and the Spanish Embassy have gone unanswered,” GIPC said.
The Agency has unreservedly issued an apology for the unfortunate turn of event but advised the SGCC to desist from resorting to the media to express its grievances and “attacking a government official rather than reach out for dialogue”.
“We would like to emphasise that the GIPC takes it mandate seriously and will never deliberately refuse any such engagement,” the statement said further.
“It must be made clear that the GIPC is constantly engaging foreign investor via our missions and investment forums and will NEVER ‘snub’ nor decline an engagement with investors as suggested by the publication,” it added.
