ABOUT 2,300 ORPHANS selected from the various Zongo areas in the Ashanti Region, have received new clothes, shoes, veil and food, to mark the Eid-Ul-Fitr festival, which is slated for Wednesday.

Zuria FM, a Kumasi-based radio station, which is noted for always extending a helping hand to the needy, especially in the deprived Zongo communities, used its network to solicit the items, worth GH¢ 100,000.

The station, whose programme content includes 80 percent Islamic and Zongo issues, had over the past 12 years been making similar donations to the orphans to mark the Eid-Ul-Fitr, which is an important day on the Islamic calendar.

CEO of Zuria FM, Alhaji Haruna Habu, who is the brain behind the commendable gesture, said the Holy Quran teaches Muslims to always assist people in need, therefore the presentation was in fulfillment of an order from the Quran.

He stated that Ghanaians are one people; with the same destiny therefore it is important that affluent people and those in responsible positions, always do their best to improve upon the lives of the vulnerable and needy in their midst.

According to Alhaji Habu, the annual donations formed part of Zuria FMs corporate social responsibilities, assuring that the donation would be sustained in the years to come so that the orphans could mark the Eid-Ul-Fitr with joy.

Hajiya Suwaiba, General Manageress of Zuria FM, said all mothers in the country should make it a point to support orphans in their various communities, saying “we as mothers, should treat the orphans as our own children”.

Yussif Abdul Ganiyu aka ‘Shola’, Business Development Manager of Zuria FM, urged affluent people in the Zongo communities to contribute their quota in the upbringing of the orphans, stressing that “the donated items were collected from the Zongo areas”.
